Date Published: January 11, 2022

Winter is here, and though the weather has been inconsistent here in Staunton, we can never rule out the possibility of experiencing blistering cold days for weeks (and even months) at a time. As you begin to utilize your heating system for extended periods, you may notice some problems begin to occur.

In this article, we are going to share three tips to ensure that your heating system keeps your home warm and cozy throughout winter.

Check Your Thermostat Settings

It’s important to keep your thermostat set at the correct temperature in order to keep your home warm. If you have an outdated thermostat in your home, it may be worth while to consider upgrading to a smart thermostat. This will make it easy to maintain the ideal temperature in your house.

Replace Your Air Filters Routinely

If you have a dirty or clogged air filter in your home, one of the easiest things you can do to improve efficiency with your heating system is to replace it.

Not only will replacing your air filter improve the overall comfort level in your home, but it can also improve the indoor air quality!

Keep Your Air Vents Clean

When dust or debris builds up around your air vents, it can eventually lead to major clogs or backups in your ductwork. Though air will still be able to flow through the built up debris, it forces your furnace or heating system to work harder than it needs to, resulting in costly repairs overtime.

So grab a step stool and a damp sponge or duster and go wipe up any and all dirt around the vents!

Please use caution when using a step stool or ladder to clean your air vents. If you are unable to access them to properly clean them, please contact us!
